Story
Set in late 1941, just months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, American intelligence officer Paul Soames secretly returns to Shanghai after learning that his close friend and fellow agent has been murdered. Officially, he arrives as a journalist, but his real mission is to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death.
As Paul investigates, he becomes involved with influential businessman Anthony Lan-Ting and Anthony's beautiful wife Anna. While trying to solve the murder, Paul finds himself trapped in a dangerous web of political conspiracies involving Japanese military officers, foreign diplomats, underground resistance fighters, and international spies.
Every clue he uncovers leads to another shocking revelation. Trust becomes impossible as enemies hide behind friendly faces. The city itself is filled with tension, corruption, and fear as war approaches. Paul must decide whether to complete his mission or risk everything for the woman he has fallen in love with.
